Man sets fire to Dome Building for the second time

Posted: Updated:

Chattanooga fire investigators now know who started a suspicious-looking fire a few months ago at the Dome Building at 736 Georgia Avenue.

After pursuing various leads and getting the results of samples taken from the fire scene, which tested positive for an accelerant.

59-year-old Daniel Maier was charged with arson Sunday morning.

Chattanooga firefighters were called to the Dome Building back in October of 2009. There was evidence of a fire around the entrance to the building, but the flames had burned themselves out.

The fire damage was minimal and no one was injured. Lieutenant Anthony Moore said the physical evidence led to Maier, though he denies setting the fire.

Maier was already in the county jail on other charges. No word on why Maier tried to burn down the building, which houses several law offices.
