UPDATE: Grandson charged with felony murder of his grandmother in Chickamauga
UPDATE: Thirty year-old Joshua Fowler has been charged with felony murder Monday in the death of his 74 year-old grandmother.
Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson says he bludgeoned his grandmother Joyce Fowler to death.
Joshua Fowler was on parole for drug charges.
Officers were called to Fowler's house 36 times since 1996. Most calls were due to her alarm system going off, although there were some domestic threat, prowler and theft calls.
UPDATE: Walker County deputies responded to 77 Mimosa Drive in Chickamauga, GA about 6:45 p.m. Saturday evening on a welfare check of a 75-year-old female.
Upon entering the home a Walker County Deputy located the home owner, Joyce Ann Fowler deceased in the master bedroom.
Evidence at the scene indicated Fowler died from blunt force trauma to the head.
Witnesses saw Fowler's grandson 30-year-old Joshua Michael Fowler, of LaFayette, GA at her home early Saturday morning. The time of his presence at the home is closely related to Mrs. Fowler estimated time of death, according to Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson.
Joshua Michael Fowler, was arrested at 5:30 Sunday morning at his LaFayette, GA home by parole officers, sheriff's office deputies and the G.B.I.
Joshua Fowler was arrested on a parole violation warrant and booked at the Walker County Detention Center.
Fowler is a suspect in his grandmother's murder but has not been charged with murder at this time.
G.B.I. and Walker County Crime Scene Specialist spent Sunday afternoon processing Joshua Fowler's 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe for additional evidence.
The G.B.I. crime lab will perform an autopsy on Mrs. Fowler Monday morning in Decatur, GA.
PREVIOUS STORY: Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson tells Channel 3 his office is investigating a murder in Chickamauga.
He says Joyce Fowler was found dead inside her Mimosa Drive home Saturday evening. He says Fowler was in her mid-70s and had medical issues. Her neighbors would often check on her. When she didn't answer the door Saturday, they called 911.
When officers entered the home, they found Fowler inside her bedroom with trauma to her head.
Wilson says 30-year-old Joshua Michael Fowler, Fowler's grandson, was arrested on a parole violation. He is considered a suspect, but is not charged with murder at this time. Wilson says officers are looking to see if he is connected to the crime. Investigators are processing his vehicle to look for any evidence.
Wilson says Fowler's body is being sent to Atlanta for an autopsy.
