The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program set up 17 locations this year.

The volunteers helping people file returns say, they have already completed over 4,000 accepted Federal Income Tax returns in Chattanooga and Cleveland.

The VITA program is available to anyone that makes $51,000 or less per year. The free service includes an IRS trained consultant that will help people prepare and submit their returns before the April 15th deadline.

According to coordinator, the average cost to file usually cost from $100 up to $300 dollars through a CPA firm or banking institution.

Val Pamler with VITA says, "That's why people wait till the last minute, they don't want to spend money they don't have.  This service has already saved of over $6 million dollars for the local  taxpayers."
If you are interested in finding out more about this service call 211. An operator can tell you the different locations and set up an appointment.
