GA unemployment numbers show some promise

Despite a one-half percent drop in February, the metro Dalton area again is near the top of the state of Georgia's unemployment rates with a 9.1% unemployment rate.

A year prior, the unemployment rate for the area was 11.1%.

The highest rate of unemployment in the state is the Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region at 9.7%.

Georgia's unemployment rate for February was 7.1%, also down from the same period in 2012 at 7.3%.

State-wide, most of the decline in claims came in manufacturing, administrative and support services, retail trade, health care and social assistance, and accommodations and food services. There were 4,768 claims in February 2013.

Metro Athens had the lowest area jobless rate at 5.1%
