CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Tuesday was a busy day for The Chattanooga Fire Department.

Just before noon they responded to a kitchen fire at the apartments on Pinewood Avenue.   The occupant told firefighters she had mistakenly turned on the wrong eye on the stove which had a pot of cooking oil on it.  She smelled smoke, went back to the kitchen to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the pot. She then threw water on the flames causing the fire to spread.

Firefighters were able to get the fire out quickly.  No injuries were reported.  Damage is estimated at 35-hundred dollars.   The Red Cross was called in to assist the resident.

Then at 1:30 p.m. the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a fire at Homewood Suites on Center Street.  Upon arrival building maintenance informed firefighters they had put out a small fire in a service room on the Fourth floor with a portable extinguisher.

The building had minimal fire and smoke damage but received water damage to several rooms from the activation of the sprinkler system.

No injuries were reported and damages are estimated to be around 10-thousand dollars.

The cause of this fire is under investigation.

Then just before 2:00 p.m. Chattanooga firefighters responded to a shed fire on Forest Acres Lane.  When firefighters arrived the shed was fully involved.  The shed housed lawn equipment and vehicles.  No injuries were reported and the damages are undetermined.  The cause of the fire is also under investigation.
