UPDATE: Victim identified in shooting on Interstate 24 in Marion Co.

MARION COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

Interstate 24 westbound in Marion County is now back open after an a man apparently took his own life near mile marker 154.  It happened around 1:00 p.m. CST. 

Marion County Sheriff Burnett says they were contacted by the DeKalb County, Alabama Sheriff's Office to look for a male in a white van.

Officers spotted a van in the back parking lot of Western Sizzlin' in Jasper.  The driver was identified as Charles Murphree.

The van fled the scene, heading west on Interstate 24 with police following.   The driver went a few miles before pulling over and shooting himself.

According to Sheriff Burnett the TBI is now investigating. No officers were harmed.
