The USDA takes measures to control the feral hog population in East Tennessee

Posted: Updated:
MCMINN COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -

A chopper was flying high over McMinn County Thursday on the hunt for feral hogs.

The Agriculture Department began running controlled operations with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency aimed at controlling the feral hog population in the area.

Officials say the hogs have been an issue for years.  Recently Animal Control officials received a number of complaints from residents saying the hogs were ripping up their yards.

As part of those controlled operations, the USDA is flying over specific non-residential properties, locating feral hogs, then shooting them.
