Some select Chattanoogans are getting a crash course on law enforcement.

A little more than a dozen civilians took part in the Chattanooga Police's Citizens Police Academy Thursday night.
The program gives everyday people a better idea of what goes on behind the scenes in law enforcement.

We asked Heather Dedmon of East Brainerd, why she's taking part, "my goal was to mainly learn more about the department, the area in which I live in and meet the officers and basically help out the neighborhood"

Thursday night's topics ranged from protecting yourself and personal robbery to DUI enforcement.

The Citizens Police Academy is offered a couple of times every year.
