UPDATE: Serious crash in Meigs County

One person is dead following a crash in Meigs County early Tuesday morning.  

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that around 4:20 a.m. a Honda CRV driven by 24-year-old James M. Headrick of Decatur was traveling west on Lamontville Road.  Headrick ran off the roadway to the right, struck a fire hydrant, ran up an embankment , went through a barbwire fence and struck a tree, spun around and came to final stop.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

His passenger, 26-year-old William L. Millaway of Georgetown sustained several injuries.

Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.
