Man survives funeral home mistake, but dies weeks later

Posted: Updated:

Seventy-eight year-old Walter Williams made headlines two weeks ago for his second chance at life.

The long-time farmer stopped breathing and was pronounced dead by a coroner at his home in a small central Mississippi town, about 40 miles north of Jackson.

He was taken to a local funeral home, where workers preparing him for embalming, noticed he started moving inside the body bag.

He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with congestive heart failure.

The coroner called it "a miracle."

Williams told everyone the whole thing felt like a deep sleep.

The family said Williams passed away peacefully Thursday morning at his home.
