Chattanooga Area Food Bank wins grant

Posted: Updated:

The Chattanooga Area Food Bank has won a $6,000 grant from the Darden Restaurants Foundation, which will be used operate the Senior Grocery program, providing 150 at-risk seniors with fresh, nutritious food each month.

Darden's restaurants include Red Lobster, Olive Garden and LongHorn Steakhouse, among others.

The $1,000 grants from each restaurant in the group are awarded to local non-profit community programs, and support one of Darden's three areas of focus:

  • Education
  • Preservation of natural resources
  • Hunger relief

Chattanooga Area Food Bank President, Maeghan Jones, says the Darden Restaurant group is one of many community partners doing their part to fight hunger in this region, according to a news release.

"I applaud Darden Restaurant Inc. and our local Red Lobsters, Olive Gardens and Longhorn Steakhouses for stepping up to the challenge of feeding our hungry neighbors. They worked together to make a big impact for our area seniors and they serve as an example of what businesses are capable of when they work together," said Jones.

The restaurants also donate prepared food to the CAFB throughout the year.

The CAFB also partners with Channel 3 as the beneficiary our Annual Share Your Christmas Food Drive.
