Posted: Updated:

A Sand Mountain man wanted in connection with possessing several automatic weapons is now in custody.

Thirty-one year old Justin Smith was arrested after the Dade County Sheriff's Office received a tip that there were weapons at the home located on Poplar Road.

When officers arrived, they did not find any weapons but did find ammunition and drugs.  Smith and his wife,  32-year old Misty Hodges were booked at the Dade County Jail.

Authorities returned later to the home and found the weapons.

Smith is a convicted felon and on probation out of Alabama.  He will face additional charges for the firearms.  Dade County Sheriff Cross says a person must have a Class III Federal Firearms License in order to possess these weapons.   The weapons will be handed over to the ATF.

Hodges was released on a $1000 bond.  Smith remains in jail.
