UPDATE: One dead in Chattooga Co. standoff

LYERLY, GA (WRCB) -

The man fatally wounded late Sunday night after he opened fire on Chattooga County Deputies has been identified as 60-year old Herbert Wayne Morehead of Lyerly, Georgia.

The Deputy that was involved is identified as Robert C. Clark.

Sunday night deputies responded to a domestic dispute around 9:30 p.m. in Lyerly.

Morehead fired a high powered rifle at the deputy and the deputy fired back, fatally wounding the suspect.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting the investigation.
