NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police have arrested the suspect in a fatal stabbing that happened Monday evening in north Nashville.

Officers were called around 5:15 p.m. Monday to the 2600 block of Combs Drive.

Investigators said Eric Donnovan Lawler, 55, was visiting his friend, Demetrish Hillman, 32, outside Hillman's home when an argument broke out between the men.

Hillman apparently threw a brick at Lawler's vehicle while Lawler was inside, police said, so Lawler stopped the car, got out and stabbing Hillman in the neck and chest.

Hillman was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died.

Lawler, a convicted felon, was wanted on a murder warrant in addition to warrants issued Saturday charging him with domestic assault and vandalism against his ex-wife, police said.

He is being held without bond in the Metro jail pending a hearing.
