Metro officer charged with DUI after off-duty arrest

Posted: Updated:

A Metro police officer is facing charges after getting arrested while off duty Wednesday night.

Someone called police saying 42-year-old Christopher Stafford appeared to be intoxicated and was involved in an argument with another driver.

Stafford allegedly drove to the apartment complex on Edmondson Pike with his young child in the Dodge pickup truck.

Officers say they could smell alcohol on Stafford and found a loaded pistol in his truck.

Stafford is facing charges of DUI and handgun possession while under the influence of alcohol.

He was released from jail after posting a $6,000 bond.

Stafford is a 13-year veteran of the police department. He has been decommissioned and placed on administrative assignment.
