Man arrested after allegedly stealing police car during chase

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

A search for a man who allegedly stole a police car during a chase has ended with his arrest on several charges.

Police were chasing the man on foot near 12th Avenue and Jefferson Street around 4 a.m. Thursday.

During the chase, the man allegedly jumped into a running patrol car and took off with it.

Police say the man drove the car to Ireland Street, jumped out and ran away again.

Police used search dogs to track him down and took him into custody.

Jerome Jenkins, 45, is now charged with stealing a Metro police car and assaulting a police officer. He is also charged with felon in possession of a handgun, theft of property, drug possession, vehicle theft, evading arrest and driving on a revoked license.
