Police: Security guard fired shots into car hood

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Police say a security guard fired several shots into a car hood in downtown Nashville Thursday morning.

A man and woman were reportedly inside the car at the time of the incident, which happened near 1207 McGavock Pike in the Gulch around 2:45 a.m.

Police say licensed security guard 55-year-old Max Scruggs was told by the employees of a nearby restaurant that a man and woman were fighting across the street.

Scruggs responded to the scene and found 25-year-old John Scalf and 27-year-old Jessica Tillery.

Scruggs says he called 911 to report the fight and told them not to leave because police were on the way.

Scalf and Tillery then allegedly got into the car and tried to pull away, which is when Scruggs told police he fired shots into the hood because he was scared for his safety.

No charges have been filed against any of the people involved in the incident.

The Domestic Violence Division is handling the investigation into the fight between Scalf and Tillery, and detectives are investigating Scruggs' actions.
