Warm through the weekend, Sunday storms

Posted: Updated:

Good Friday!  A high of 70 degrees?  It could happen this weekend.

A front off to the west will remain stationary, and ahead of that front we will see light south winds continue to pump in warm air allowing highs today to climb into the low 60s.  We will also see clouds building through the day with only a slight chance of a late day sprinkle or two.

Tonight will remain mild with lows in the low 50s, and some patchy areas of fog and light sprinkles.

The front will finally begin to move eastward Saturday, so I expect more widespread showers  Saturday into Saturday night.  Saturday's high is expected to reach about 70!

The main squall line associated with the front will move through early Sunday morning.  Right now, it looks like the line will move over the plateau between 5 and 6am,  through Chattanooga between 7 and 8am, and into the Blue Ridge between 9 and 10am.  The main threat from this line will be gusty winds that could produce some damage.

Sunday afternoon we will dry out with much cooler air heading into Christmas week.  Right now, it looks like we will have clear skies Christmas eve with a low of 28, and a high of 45.  Christmas will be sunny with a low of 27, and a high of 50.
