"Dickens Christmas" at Hickory Valley Christian School

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Hickory Valley Christian School in Chattanooga looked like a scene out of 19th century England Thursday.

Fezziwig Feast started three years ago under the direction of reading teacher Meg Scott.  She and headmaster Tony Tucker have the students read the great illustrated classics and enjoys finding ways of bringing them to life.

Many of their favorite works were Charles Dickens novels: Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, and, of course, A Christmas Carol.

It has become a school-wide event to celebrate the life and works of Dickens.  Students seem to enjoy doing a Christmas program, outside the usual traditions.  Children, parents, and teachers are all encouraged to come in costume.  After the program, they enjoy a traditional feast.

This has quickly become a very popular tradition at Hickory Valley Christian School.
