Bank goers describe scene at FSG bank after robbery

Posted: Updated:
OOLTEWAH, TN (WRCB) -

A search for an armed robbery suspect continues, leaving an Ooltewah community on edge.

Police say around 1:15 Thursday afternoon, at the FSG Bank on Lee highway, an armed suspect wearing what appeared to be a blonde wig and fake beard, handed a bank teller a note demanding money, and implied he had a gun.

The suspect took off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Those at the bank were in for a surprise as they saw police cars enter the parking lot.

"The police came down the road, and they just swarmed the bank," said Kenny Godsey.

That was the reaction of one witness, after police cars flooded into the FSG parking lot, shortly after it was robbed.

"We just sat in the car and watched it," said Godsey.

Police tell us the suspect came in around 1:00 p.m.

"He came in with a note, demanded money, and implied a weapon," said Tim McFarland, Chattanooga Police.

Police tell us the bank tellers followed orders, but added a dye pack to the bag of cash.

The suspect then fled the scene, where he was chased into the woods by an employee from Bojangles.

Jurgen Seebeck came to the bank shortly after the robbery, and found himself locked out.

"I looked at the hours on the doors, and it fit into the time and I thought what's going on," said Seebeck. "So I decided to go through the drive through, but it said temporarily closed, and blue lights were going off and police cars everywhere."

He said with Christmas being so close, he isn't surprised by the act.

"It's the first time I've come on to a situation like this, yes, but it doesn't surprise me this time of year," said Seebeck.

Police are describing the suspect as a 30 year old white male, wearing black pants and a black jacket and carrying a back pack.

They tell Channel 3 he had blonde hair and a beard, but aren't sure if either were real.

"The beard was possibly fake, and the blonde hair could have been a wig, we aren't sure. We're still reviewing footage," said McFarland. "We're still in the area, and obviously there are a lot of us, so if he does pop up, we'll catch him."

They say if you see anyone who matches the description, to call authorities.

Police say you should consider this person armed and dangerous.
