Help requested for road rage shooting victim's family

Posted: Updated:

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) - A scene of road rage turned deadly earlier this week. Chattanooga Police are still piecing together the minutes leading up to the shooting.  Those who know the shooting suspect and the victim, say regardless of who did what, it's a tragedy that left three children without a dad, just days before Christmas.

"It's an entire family that's lost their dad a week before Christmas, and we'll never be able to explain the how's or the why's," Brainerd Baptist School Headmaster said.

Sean Corcoran is the headmaster at Brainerd Baptist School. It's where Alex Gallman dropped off two of his sons Tuesday morning just before being gunned down in the middle of an intersection.

Police say Richard Manning pulled the trigger when Gallman got out of his car at South Moore Road and North Terrace Road. Gallman's wife, Anna was in the car.

Manning drove away and changed cars, but police tracked him down. Gallman didn't make it.

"A five and seven year old whose dad brought them to school on Tuesday, and you know, having to tell them he's gone and not going to be coming back and not going to be home," Corcoran said.

Corcoran said Jayden and Kaleb are some of the sweetest kids in school.

"They're model students. They're just well behaved, good students, very polite young men and we're honored to have them in our school," Corcoran said.

He says the Gallmans are some of the hardest workers-- sacrificing a lot to send them there. He was a personal trainer, she's a waitress. Those who know them worry how the family will make it without him.

"If you're looking for somebody that you could help, this family is worthy of the help and the need is great," Corcoran said.

Gallman's older son, goes to school in North Georgia. A trust fund has been set up for all three children.

"It's a tragic story anyway you look at it, but a week before Christmas, two weeks before Jayden's birthday, his 6th birthday," he said.

The funeral is Friday for Norman "Alex" Gallman. The "Gallman Trust Fund" for his sons is setup at Suntrust Bank.

Richard Manning faces criminal homicide and aggravated assault charges. He worked as a certified firearms instructor, training security guards. His co-workers say he has a range of health problems and believe he must have felt threatened to pull the trigger. He's due in court Monday.
