CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Two of nine pet dogs perished in a house fire at 3708 6th Avenue.  It happened around 1:30 Thursday afternoon.

When firefighters arrived at the address smoke was seen coming out of the house.   Firefighters forced their way in through the front and the side of the home and quickly put out the blaze.  An official said no one appeared to be home, but nine pet dogs were inside.   They managed to save seven of the nine.  The residents showed up shortly after the fire had been put out.

The fire damage was contained to two rooms, but the rest of the house suffered smoke damage.  An estimate on the dollar loss was not available. Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the residents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
