Ranking cities state-by-state, Movoto has ranked cities with at least 5,000 residents from the best places to live down to the worst.

At the top of the list is Signal Mountain, where factors such as cost of living, high school graduation rate and home value rank a Tennessee city's placement on the scale.

The top ten cities in Tennessee, according to Movoto are:

  1. Signal Mountain
  2. Brentwood
  3. Bartlett
  4. Germantown
  5. Farragut
  6. Lakeland
  7. Nolensville
  8. Spring Hill
  9. Oakland
  10. Collierville

The factors used to determine the city ranking are:

  • Cost of living
  • Crime rate
  • High school diploma attainment
  • Median household income
  • Median home value
  • Median rent price
  • Unemployment rate

Each area was ranked from one to 105 in each criteria, with one being the best possible score. Then, the individual rankings were averaged into an overall "Big Deal Score," with the lowest score being the winner, Signal Mountain.

Soddy-Daisy weighed in at 34th, Collegedale at 40th, East Ridge at 43rd, but Chattanooga was not mentioned in the top 50 cities in Tennessee.
