Hundreds wait in rain to shop "Stocking Full of Love"
More than 1,400 children will receive a Christmas gift this year thanks to the Al Millard Memorial Stocking Full of Love, which has been giving back to the community for 25 years.
Hundreds braved the wet weather to wait in line outside Oakwood Baptist Church Saturday in Chickamauga. Inside volunteers carrying trash bags waited to fill them to the top with toys for needy children.
Over the past year more than 8,000 toys were bought, donated and collected for this one day shopping extravaganza. However, shoppers won't see any price tags on the items. Everyone leaves with a bag full of toys, completely free of charge.
For parents like Kimberly Murphy it gives her children the Christmas they've been wanting.
"We really, really needed to help our kids. It's God's blessing for sure," Murphy says.
"Its just a great atmosphere and as you can see it looks like a department store behind me here," Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson jokes.
Organizers tell Channel 3 they want to thank the volunteers who helped make this year's Stocking Full of Love a success.
