Crime Stoppers: Theft of Blu-rays Nearly Leads to Stabbing

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Just wait until you read all the details in this week's Crime Stoppers case file. "I've met desperate people," said Chattanooga Police Sgt. Craig Joel. "I know desperation; people that are hurting. This isn't them. These are just lazy criminals."

Security noted the duo on surveillance cameras at the Eastgate Walmart. "They zoomed in," said Sgt. Joel, "they saw a couple with stacks of things in their cart. They placed a bag and a backpack in the cart, made the transfer in the middle of an aisle, bagged it up and went about their business."

Their business was high-tailing it toward the parking lot with over a thousand dollars worth of Blu-ray discs. They were confronted by security officers and that is where it almost got ugly. "It was important enough that they pulled out a large hunting knife and started waving it at the security officers," said Joel.

That defiant act could up the charges against the two. Because of the number of discs and their total value, the theft is already a felony. By pulling that knife, the male opened himself up for something else. "It's straight up, aggravated assault is the charge," Sgt. Joel explained, "but it could be articulated as attempted murder."

So, have a good look at the pictures. One of the duo is said to be a white male, in his 30's. His hair color is brown with some gray and he has a goatee. The man is thought to be about 5'10".

His partner is a white female who appears to be between 25 and 35 years old with long red hair. She is about 5'7' weighing 130 pounds, or so.

They fled in an older model green colored Ford Ranger. Some silver details on the tailgate may set it apart.

If you know them, think you have seen them or the getaway vehicle, or can tie this crime to someone trying to move a load of Blu-rays, we would love to hear from you. Up to a thousand dollars is on the table for your good tip. Plus, there is an added benefit. "These idiots pulled out a knife to facilitate the escape for theft of videos," Sgt. Joel said. "That's ridiculous. So, we're hoping to reward them for all their trouble with some extra jail time for the aggravated assault."

Your call to Crime Stoppers is completely anonymous. No one will know you provided the tip; not police, not your friends nor your enemies.
