Chattanooga man unharmed after crashing car into ravine

Posted: Updated:

Thanks to emergency responders and bystanders, a Chattanooga man is now safe after crashing his car into a ravine.

When the driver's family members arrived to the accident location they saw their father's completely totaled vehicle where he was trapped. They are now thankful he was able to walk away unharmed.

Chattanooga Police received a call from a passerby that noticed a four-door sedan sitting on its side, wrecked with the airbags deployed, glass shattered all over, the hood crinkled and the side doors crunched.

"When I got here the situation was so bad, so I know there is a God because he helped get my dad out," said Marcus Hood, the driver's son.

After taking a closer look, a passerby noticed someone was moving around inside the vehicle.

The silver Dodge Charger was tangled up in large vines, lying deep below in a ravine covered in mud while the rain kept pouring down.

When his family arrived they expected the worst after seeing where the car landed, knowing their dad's medical condition and seeing all of the damage.

"I am very very happy. Why? Because he is able to stand up and he is still with us," said Renetta Hood, daughter-in-law.

The driver appeared to be visibly shaken but said he was unharmed. Mr. Hood told Channel 3 he did not feel well shortly after getting behind the wheel. He believes he had a seizure that caused him to black out and lose control.

"No one was injured, thank God. He appears to have a medical issue. He is okay and no one else was hurt," said a Chattanooga Police Officer working the scene.

Mr. Hood's family encouraged him to go to the hospital to get checked out just to make sure everything was okay, but he declined.
