Rain/storms today, possible flooding by Monday

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Good Thursday.  What a warm start to the day.  Temps are in the 60s his morning with clouds, patchy fog, and a few isolated showers to boot.

As we move through the day, we will stay warm (a high near 70), but the main focus will be the development of rain and thunderstorms this afternoon.

Expect scattered showers to move in ahead of a front this afternoon and this evening.  With that we could see a few storms as well.  The biggest threat from any storms that pop up would be damaging winds.  Small hail is a SLIGHT possibility.

Tonight, the rain showers will become more numerous, and through the day Friday, as the front stalls out over us, rain will train into the area all day long.

We will see the rain continue into Friday night, then taper of heading into Saturday morning.

Saturday will be a bit cooler as behind the front winds will blow from the north at 10-15 mph, keeping highs in the mid 40s.

We will see more rain lifting in overnight Saturday into Sunday.  The rain will once again hover over us keeping it wet and rainy all day Sunday and Monday.

Cold air will move in Monday night, and may transition some of the remaining rain showers into some light mixed precipitation early Tuesday morning.  Lows Tuesday morning will be in the low to mid 30s, so it shouldn't be a big deal.  We will see clear skies with highs only reaching about 40 Tuesday afternoon.

I mentioned cold air next week... Highs will be in the low 40s and lows will drop into the 20s Tuesday and Wednesday night.

Hold on. The heat and humidity are going to continue through the weekend. Today, look for a high of 95 and a heat index near 100. We won't see the same coverage of storms that we saw last night, but with this much heat and humidity in place you never want to completely rule out one or two storms breaking through.More
