One person is dead, another injured and one person unharmed following a shooting Wednesday night on Highway 58.

Dispatch received the call around 7:20p.m. Wednesday of at least one person shot at the Bi-lo at 4510 Highway 58.

Witnesses at the scene tell Channel 3 they heard "pops" and saw an SUV peel out of the parking lot.

Chattanooga Police say the man shot and killed in the vehicle is believed to be a suspect of an attempted robbery.

They also stated in a new release that the victim said he met the suspect in the parking lot to purchase several computer tablets.

The victim stated that the suspect pointed a firearm at him and demanded his money.

According to the victim, there was a brief struggle over the firearm and a second suspect attempted to pull the victim from his vehicle. 

The victim was able to pull his firearm in self-defense, fatally shooting one suspect and leaving another in critical condition at a local hospital.

The second victim showed up at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the shoulder.

Warrants are in the process of being filed against the suspect currently in the hospital.

Families have not yet been notified.
