Cleveland family starting over after house fire

Posted: Updated:
CLEVELAND, TN (WRCB) -

Christy Payne says, she was relaxing at home with her husband and their 5 children when her 15-year-old daughter rushed into the living room alerting the family something caught fire.

Emergency crews arrived, quickly put the blaze out and everyone inside escaped unharmed. Some items were burned, all the kids clothing were charred and their home was filled with soot.

The Payne's left after the whole incident to stay with relatives for a few days. When they returned, Christie says, "all the rest of the items left behind that were salvageable were stolen."

The Payne's neighbors told Channel 3, they heard a loud noise and people inside the following night. They thought the family returned to pick through their belongings.  "I saw lights in the house like a flash light. I thought it was the husband but it wasn't," said Linda Luke.

The Cleveland Police Department is investigating this case. The family was put in touch with the local Red Cross to receive clothes and other basic necessities.
