Lori McDaniel wins Whitfield Celebrity Spelling Bee

DALTON, GA (WRCB) -

The Whitfield Education Foundation's inaugural Celebrity Spelling Bee was held Tuesday at Crosspointe Christian Centre in Dalton.  Lori McDaniel of Dalton Utilities edged attorney Greg Kinnamon by correctly spelling the word "delicatessen." It was emceed by WRCB News Anchor David Carroll.

The $25 tickets included dinner and a chance to watch community celebrities compete for top speller.

Proceeds will help fund the Foundation's Innovative Teaching Grants in Whitfield County Schools. The celebrity spellers were:

  • David Aft -- President of the Community Foundation of Northwest Georgia
  • Brian Anderson -- President of the Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce
  • Dan Combs -- State Farm Insurance Agent
  • Sara Davis -- Retired Whitfield County Teacher
  • Tom Dickson -- State Representative
  • Louis Fordham -- Whitfield County Board of Education Chair
  • Tony Ingle Dalton State College Basketball Coach
  • Jamie Jones -- Dalton Daily Citizen Editor
  • Greg Kinnamon -- Attorney
  • Lynn Laughter -- Whitfield County Commissioner
  • Lori McDaniel -- Dalton Utilities Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations
  • Cherri Robertson -- Alfa Insurance Agent
  • Ty Ross -- Dalton City Manager
  • Naomi Swanson -- Dalton Tea Party Organizer
  • Joe Yarbrough -- Senior Vice President of Advanced Manufacturing of Mohawk Industries

The grants are awarded annually to Whitfield County Teachers. Successful grant applicants get to design work for students that would not be possible within their regular classroom budget.
