A big decision in Morgan County, Tennessee, voters have passed a proposal to turn the Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary into a distillery.

According to the Morgan County Election Commission, voters passed the measure by a 2 to 1 margin.

Cheers erupted from a small group of supporters Tuesday night as they listened to the results on the radio.

The developers, Brushy Mountain Group from Chattanooga, said they couldn't be happier.

"I can't explain how this feels. Really I don't have any word for it. It means that we have the ability to go forward confidently, knowing that we didn't split a community. I mean this is a big deal. It really is." Brian May, partner, Brushy Mountain Group

Up next - The Brushy Mountain Group plans to work on transferring property and getting the distillery ready for visitors.
When it's finished - developers also hope to have a gift shop, museum, and horse trails.
