Mocs' Tull named SoCon Defensive Player of the Month

CHATTANOOGA (UTC) -- Chattanooga junior defensive end Davis Tull claimed the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Month honor for October, the league office announced Wednesday.

Tull, already the school's career sack leader, had a phenomenal month leading the Mocs defense. He tallied 15 tackles, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. Those 15 stops included 4.5 sacks (24 yards lost) as he set the career sacks record (24.0) with one at Elon on October 19. He also forced a fumble on that play, aiding a 20-9 UTC road triumph.

His best game during the month came in a 31-9 win over Furman on the 12th. He recorded 3.5 sacks (21 yards lost), forced two fumbles and recovered one en route to SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors providing a happy Homecoming for alums.

Tull also had five tackles in a 28-24, come-from-behind win over The Citadel on the 26th. Behind his efforts, the Mocs recorded a 4-0 month.

Chattanooga is on a five-game win streak, all coming in conference action. It is the first time in the school's 37 SoCon campaigns that it's posted five league wins in a row.

The Mocs, ranked 23rd in the nation, host No. 15 Wofford in a pivotal SoCon matchup Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m., at Finley Stadium, while out-of-town fans can watch the game on ESPN3.com. Chattanooga leads the SoCon race at 5-1, while the Terriers are tied for second at 4-1 with Samford.
