It happened at a home off Highway 411, around 5-o'clock Wednesday morning.  Firefighters say the home sustained extensive damage in the fire.

"We really don't know how long it was burning before they discovered it. It was a very large fire, pretty advanced when we arrived."

When fire fighters got to the scene they found a woman and two children, both under 10-years-old, standing in front of this burning house.  They were missing one member of their family who officials say was initially able to get out of the home but for some reason ran back inside.

"There obviously was something that he felt was value that he needed to go back in and get."

Those close to the family have identified that man as Mark Trueblood.  We're told he suffered from dementia.

"He had had a medical history of some type, yes."

Officials found him near the kitchen area.  They believe the fire started near the front left of the home, near the fireplace, but it's not yet clear what exactly started the fire.

The Red Cross and case workers were on the scene the majority of the day, helping the family cope with their loss.

West Polk Fire and Rescue Chief Lofty says they did everything by the books when it comes to being prepared, but sometimes being prepared just isn't enough.  "In this case this family had a plan, they knew where they were gonna go for some unknown reason the individual decided that something of value greater than his life, he needed to get and unfortunately that was an unwise decision for him."

Friends and family have arrived at the home next door. At this time they're asking for privacy as they mourn the loss of a loved one.
