Red Cross volunteers distribute free smoke detector

Posted: Updated:

Over 60 volunteers gathered early Saturday morning across the street from the New Monumental Baptist Church to roll up their sleeves and help install free smoke detectors to anyone located in Chattanooga that wanted one.

The Red Cross came prepared with a whole van full of supplies that included buckets filled with pamphlets, batteries and over 150 smoke detectors.

Volunteers were broken up into eight groups. Some stuffed information bags with fire prevention tips and a safety checklists while others headed out on foot to knocking on doors.

If you would like a free smoke detector or information regarding fire prevention contact the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee at 423-265-2455 or their website by clicking here
