FT. OGLETHORPE, Ga. (WRCB-DT) - We dip back into North Georgia to pick up the Lakeview-Ft. Oglethorpe High School Warrior Marching Band. It was Lakeview Middle School Band Appreciation Night on the evening we stopped by, and with the addition of the younger students, the number of players swelled to 180!
The students have a great sound, this year, and Director Rich Stichler tells me they have been rewarded by winning 2nd Place in class and 2nd Place overall at the Armuchee Invitational competition in September.
Their halftime show, this season, featured the music of Sir Elton John. Fans of all ages sang and hummed along to: Funeral for a Friend, Love Lies Bleeding from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Your Song, and the closer Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting.
The end of the of the year does not bring an end to the fun for the LFO group, though. As they get into concert band season, they will also be preparing for a trip to Chicago to march in perhaps the country's most well-known St. Patrick's Day Parade! To help fund the trip, they are selling fruit through the fall (call the LFO Band Room for details: 706-866-0342) and they run a concession stand at McKenzie Arena. So whether you are there to see the Mocs, the Lady Mocs, a monster truck pull, or ice skating demonstration, make sure to hit them up when you think refreshments!
Mr. Stichler tells me it has been a great year with a relatively young band, setting them up for even stronger years and more growth in the future. Our big thanks to him and the students of the Warrior Marching Band of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School, your Band of the Week!
