TN pastor charged with rape of mentally disabled teen

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, TN (AP) - A Columbia pastor is facing charges of raping a mentally disabled young woman from his ministry.

The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/Hz3WSN ) that 68-year-old David Lynn Zeigler is scheduled to be arraigned Monday. He has been indicted for raping the then-18-year-old whom he is alleged to have known was "mentally incapacitated or physically helpless."

Columbia Police Detective Cheryl MacPherson said a psychologist's investigation found the girl to have an IQs of 69 and an age equivalent of no more than 10 years old. MacPherson said the young woman, now 19, was determined not to be capable of granting consent for any sexual act.

The police report says Zeigler acknowledged a sexual relationship with the teen, but not before she turned 18. His attorney did not return a message seeking comment.
