Pat Summitt hospitalized for "routine" tests
Rumors started spreading on social media on Tuesday morning that legendary Lady Vols basketball coach emeritus Pat Summitt was hospitalized.
According to Patrick Wade, the Director of the Pat Summitt Foundation, that is true. Wade said in a statement that Summitt was admitted to the hospital late Sunday for routine medical testing on Monday. She is expected to be released on Tuesday afternoon. He said Pat was looking forward to getting "home with the dogs" and "back into her daily routine."
At the age of 59, Summitt was diagnosed with early onset dementia, Alzheimer's Type, in August 2011. She stepped down as the head coach of the Lady Vols the following summer, but is still very involved with the team and university as coach emeritus. She also started the Pat Summitt Foundation, which raises money for Alzheimer's research.
