Chattanooga honored as a Valley Sustainable Community

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Chattanooga and Hamilton County were honored today with a platinum rating by the Tennessee Valley Authority in their new "Valley Sustainable Communities" program.

The designation is expected to help the community to better compete for jobs and investment.

In a news release from the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, the city is said to have recently completed the program, making Chattanooga one of the first cities to receive the honor.

The environmentally-friendly rating came from the area's sustainable business activities, Tennessee Riverwalk and growing number LEED-certified buildings.

Also noted were the solar farms at Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport and Volkswagen Chattanooga.

Both Knoxville and Oak Ridge have won similar awards from the TVA.
