Felines rejoice: Today is National Cat Day

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Furry felines rejoice. Today is National Cat Day.

According to Nationalcatday.com, Pet Lifestyle Expert & Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige founded National Cat Day in 2005 to help bring attention to the number of cats that need to be rescued each year and also to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cats in their life.

There are approximately four million cats entering shelters every year with one to two million being euthanized.

If you don't have a cat but want one, visit your local shelter and adopt. You can visit McKamey Animal Shelter or the Humane Educational Society for more information.

So go ahead: cuddle your kitty; watch that video of a cat playing the drums, and most of all -- send us your cat pictures to pix@wrcbtv.com
