MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WRCB) -- All five Chattanooga area programs survived the first day of the TSSAA state volleyball championships, but only one was able to do so without a blemish.
Baylor beat St. Benedict in its only match of the day and will play St. Agnes in the winner's bracket final Thursday morning. The Lady Red Raiders need just two more wins to secure a state championship.
Ooltewah, Signal Mountain, Red Bank and Boyd-Buchanan all split a pair of matches Wednesday and will face elimination Thursday. Red Bank and Signal Mountain will face each other in a Class AA loser's bracket elimination match at 12:30 p.m. ET at Blackman High School.
The day started off well with every local program except Red Bank winning its opening round match. However, Ooltewah, Signal Mountain and Boyd-Buchanan were all swept in the winner's bracket semifinals later in the day to fall into the loser's bracket.
Red Bank lost its opener 3-1 to Page, but bounced back to stay alive with a 3-1 win over Dyersburg late Wednesday night.
