UPDATE: Man falls after chasing mountain lion up tree

Posted: Updated:

A man is in the hospital recovering after spending all day trapped in the woods, calling for help.

Soddy Daisy Fire Chief Mike Guffey tells Channel-3, a man in his 20's fell out of a tree some time Tuesday morning in the woods near Ward Road.

Guffey says the man told firefighters he spotted a mountain lion and chased it up the mountain. He saw the animal go up a tree and followed it. He fell roughly 70 feet.

He was finally discovered that same night when neighbors heard a man screaming for help. Neighbors called police and emergency crews responded to the scene.

He was roughly a mile back in the woods, and emergency responders had difficulty getting to him due to the rough, steep terrain and cold temperatures.

They managed to finally get him and after securing him, took him down the mountain to a waiting ambulance.

The extent of his condition is unknown, but we do know he is suffering from several fractures.

We will continue to update this story as information becomes available.
