CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Chattanooga Fire investigators say an early morning fire on Tunnel Boulevard displaced a family of six.

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a house fire Sunday morning around 4:30 at 1814 Tunnel Boulevard.

Investigators tell Channel 3 when the first firefighters arrived on the scene, the flames were visible on most sides of the house but residents of the house had already escaped the blaze unharmed.

Lt. Tim Waters said the fire appeared to have started in the laundry room, and was quickly spreading up into the attic.

Firefighters from three additional fire companies arrived on the scene putting out the fire in the attic and laundry room.

Investigators tell Channel 3 most of the fire damage was contained to the laundry room and part of the attic at an estimated loss of $20,000.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the family. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
