Congressman shows up in support of Breast Cancer Awareness

Posted: Updated:

Politics were set aside Friday night, while a U.S. Congressman enjoyed Friday night football in support of breast cancer awareness month.

Many lined the field in honor of breast cancer survivors.

Pink and white balloons were sent off in memory of lives lost during their battle.

Silverdale Baptist Academy's Headmaster, Becky Hansard says the students donated money to the cause, to help with breast cancer research.

Hansard is a survivor herself and says every little bit helps. "Any research support means a lot because the type of breast cancer I had. 12 to 15 years ago I wouldn't have lived and so because of the research of the American Cancer Society, I'm still alive 2 years later," said Hansard.

Silverdale gave away $1,800 during half time with the help of Congressman Chuck Fleischmann.

Fleischmann tells Channel 3 he's happy to support the organization after the bountiful amounts of support he's seen from his district.

"I came in yesterday and from the time I landed people have been telling me that they're praying for me, they're praying for our country which is the way it ought to be," said Fleischmann.

Hansard said they were going to continue to collect money during the game and hoped to raise $5,000 total for the American Cancer Society.
