Sheriff: Man attempts to burn down neighbor's home with lit manure
MCMINN COUNTY, TN (WRCB) -
Officials charged a McMinn County man with attempted murder Friday.
Charles Jones of Riceville was arrested Friday after he attempted to burn a neighbor's home down, according to deputies.
McMinn County officers and firefighters responded to a car on fire in a garage on County Road 146 around 3 a.m.
Two members of the family were at home at the time.
The fire was put and an investigation began where it was determined a neighbor had started it.
"The Hixon family have, over the past few months, experienced problems with a neighbor, Charles A. Jones, who has repeatedly harassed and stalked them," said Sheriff Guy. "Jones was arrested for the offenses a few weeks ago, and an order of protection against Jones was handed down from court. Of course, Jones was a suspect in this incident as well."
Jones told officials he had lit some paper covered in dog manure and thrown it on the Hixon family's car.
"His animosity towards his neighbors is unexplainable, it's simply disturbing. Nothing is much worse than a bad neighbor," says Guy.
Jones was charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated stalking, violation of order of protection, and aggravated arson
