First in the Family

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Thanks to the generosity of Chattanoogans, a group of local students will be the first in their family to attend college.

Thursday the second annual dinner of Firsts was held at the Chattanoogan.

The event honored Grady Williams, a local accountant, volunteer, and first in his family to attend college.

The event helps to raise money to assist first generation college students in the area.

Chattanooga State sophomore Ally Burchfield was among those recognized.

Grady Williams, honoree, "I believe there are between 4 and 5 thousand people who go to Chattanooga State that are first in the family. That's just unbelievable to me. I thought we were further along than that."

Ally Burchfield, Chattanooga State sophomore, "Everybody tells me congratulations or we're so proud of you. That means a lot. It gives me that extra motivation to keep everything going good at school."

(WRCB) - Good Saturday. While we have seen a few light sprinkles this morning, the bulk of the rain stayed east and south of the area, and I think that will continue to be the case. For the rest of the day we can expect mostly cloudy skies with a high today of 74. We will see our winds increasing behind the front to 10-20 mph from the northeast.Tonight, the winds die down, and we will see some clearing heading through the overnight.More
