Signal Mountain rallies past Central to clinch state tourney spot
Taelor Kellum finished with 14 kills and four blocks to fuel Signal Mountain to a come-from-behind 3-1 win over visiting Central in a Class AA sub-state sectional Thursday night.

Set scores were 16-25, 27-25, 25-16 and 25-20.

With the win, the Lady Eagles (33-21) advance to the state tournament for the first time since 2010, when they won the Class A state championship. Signal Mountain has lost in the sectional round the past two years after moving up a classification.

Central surged to an early lead by taking the first set behind a balanced attack of Tiffany Estep, Skylar Wolfe and Rebekah Hill, and had chances to take a 2-0 lead late in the second.

However, down 24-22, Signal Mountain closed the second set on a 5-2 run to avoid an 0-2 deficit.

Kellum, who was held to just one kill in the opening set, finally found her groove to jump start the Lady Eagles' offense. They cruised to a game three win before using a finishing flurry to put the match away and clinch the third state tournament appearance in program history.

Aryn Sanders led Signal Mountain with 16 digs and Amanda Thielges dished out 21 assists.

Estep led Central (28-13) with 21 kills and three blocks.

Red Bank sweeps Notre Dame for sixth straight state tourney trip
RED BANK, Tenn. (WRCB) --
It wasn't as easy as the score appeared, which may explain why the celebration was so big.

Abby Graham found herself at the bottom of a wild dogpile after the scoring the final point to clinch Red Bank's 3-0 sweep of visiting Notre Dame in the Class AA sub-state sectional round Thursday night.

The win sends the Lionettes to their sixth straight state tournament.

Red Bank appeared set to cruise back to Murfreesboro after a 25-13 in the opening set, but survived for narrow 25-23 and 27-25 wins in the final two sets to complete the sweep. The Lionettes blew a 17-9 lead in the third game, only to close on a 10-4 run to set off the midcourt celebration.

Graham was rightfully in the middle of it after doing a little bit of everything in the win. She finished with four kills, two aces, 12 digs and ten assists. Autumn Babb led Red Bank with 29 digs, while Hannah Wilson added eleven to go along with five aces.

Allison Walker and Dani Usher were the Lionettes' leading scorers with six kills apiece.

Randi Clement led the Irish with eight kills, while Stephanie Bouchard finished with five kills, four aces, 17 digs and three blocks.
