Channel 3 has confirmed Chattanooga's McKamey Animal Center will soon begin its search for a new director.

Karen Walsh, who was hired as director in 2009, says she has resigned her position effective next month.

"For the last few months I have been in talks with PetSmart Charities," Walsh told Channel 3 in a phone interview, "they have offered me a national position and I have accepted."

Walsh says she is proud of McKamey's accomplishments, including the center's role with PetSmart Charities' Rescue Waggin' program. It helps transfer adoptable dogs from overcrowded shelters to ones where they have a better chance of being adopted.

McKamey will begin its search for a new director in the coming days. Meanwhile, the Humane Educational Society, which serves county residents, is looking for a new director as well after Guy Bilyeu's unexpected death last month.
