Crime Stoppers: Armed Robbery at Kangaroo

Posted: Updated:
CHATTANOOGA, TN (WRCB) -

Cold cases are exactly what Crime Stoppers is for. This armed robbery happened in mid-January at the Kangaroo Express at 6003 Shallowford Road. It is a heavily traveled area of town, but that did not stop this gun-wielding bad guy.

He entered the store around 10:30 that evening. "He actually shows the victim his semi-automatic pistol," said Sgt. Daniel Jones of the Chattanooga Police Department.

Surveillance video clearly shows the crime in progress. Sgt. Jones picks up the play-by-play as the robber is seen forcing his way into the clerk's space. "Once he comes behind the counter," Jones explained, "he actually pushes the victim into the back of the counter area demanding the money from the register."

The clerk wisely complied. "He put the victim in complete fear for his life, knowing that something could happen with that gun," Jones continued, "especially being that close with him with that weapon."

Which is why even now, nine months later, this crook needs to be caught. "This guy is approximately 5'9"," Jones said, "every bit of about 160 lbs., as the victim says."

The images are clear enough that, with your help, we should soon be hot on his trail. "This is a very good picture of this guy," Jones added, "and we like to think that someone out there recognizes this guy and will be able to let us know exactly who this person is."

And if you are that someone, there is up to a thousand dollars reward cash waiting. Make the anonymous call right now. The Crime Stoppers hotline is: 698-3333

An officer will answer the phone or return your call, but he will never ask your identity.
