Tennessee to dedicate Summitt plaza on Nov. 22

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee will hold a Nov. 22 public dedication ceremony for a bronze statue and plaza to honor former women's basketball coach Pat Summitt.

Construction is continuing on the plaza, located on the corner of Lake Loudon Boulevard and Phillip Fulmer Way. The plaza is across the street from Thompson-Boling Arena and the basketball team's Pratt Pavilion practice facility.

The project has been funded by about 550 donors.

Summitt posted a 1,098-208 record and won eight national titles in 38 seasons as Tennessee's coach. She stepped down in April 2012 after announcing a year earlier that she had early-onset dementia, Alzheimer's type. Summitt remains on Tennessee's coaching staff as head coach emeritus.
