Hamilton County Juvenile Court going electronic

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Hamilton County Juvenile Court has begun a massive document scanning project that will digitize more than 25,000 records at a cost of $154,000.

Court officials say they are drowning in paper records that would stand 38 stories tall if the file boxes were stacked atop each other. All of that soon will fit in 300 gigabytes, or a little more than half an average external hard drive.

Once the project is complete, child support clerks will be able to apply payments immediately and pull up data that can be hard to find under the current system.

Court Clerk Gary Behler tells the Chattanooga Times Free Press (http://bit.ly/18luJdi) he also wants Hamilton County to serve as a pilot program for electronic notifications on child support, eliminating mailed paper filings to Nashville.
